The Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality welcomes and works with experts from ASTM International
Under the framework of cooperation with the American Society for Testing and Materials – ASTM International, Dr. Ngo Quy Viet, Director General of the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality welcomed and worked with high-level experts of ASTM on October 22, 2009. They are Mrs. Teresa J. Cendrowska, Deputy President of Global Cooperation, Dr. Roger E. Stoller, Deputy Chairman of ASTM Management, Deputy Chairman of Technical Committee E10 on Nuclear Technology and Applications. Two experts introduced ASTM International and standards related to nuclear power industry, benefits of using ASTM standards as a basic for Vietnamese standards, benefits of participation as a member of ASTM, using ASTM standards in nuclear power technology.

Attending the meeting, on Vietnam side, aside from staffs of the Directorate coming from International Cooperation Department, Standardization Department, Vietnam Center for Standards and Quality, Information Center are units concerning implement of MoU signed with ASTM International, there are delegates of Vietnam Atomic Energy Commission, Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Control joined together and discussed a possibility of cooperation in building nuclear power standards. Particular relation in implementing MoU signed between ASTM and STAMEQ, the Directorate also proposed that ASTM would support STAMEQ participating more in ASTM technical committees as well as providing further technical documents, standards with preferential price level, supporting training in building standards, etc.
When STAMEQ has signed MoU with ASTM International since 2004, this Society has many specific active activities supporting STAMEQ, such as issuing copyright standards with preferential price, training technical staffs. There are over 20 members from Vietnam are taking part in ASTM Technical Committees at present. A member of ASTM can be an individual or an organization and ASTM extremely encourages Vietnamese experts to join. The membership can be free and have certain preferences, organizations/individuals who have demand please contact the International Cooperation Department of Directorate for specific support.
