Contracting Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between STAMEQ and UL
The contracting Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understading between The Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ) and The Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) took place in Ha Noi, on September 9th, 2009. Attending the Ceremony, on the UL side, were Mr. R.A.Venkitachalam – Deputy Chairman of UL, Mr. Paul Ng – Deputy Chairman of UL, Mr. Robert Jamieson – Commercial Director of UL, Mr. Jagdish V – Business Director of UL, Mr. Soon Ng Lee – Commercial ASIAN Director of UL, Mr. J.C. Sekar – CEO ASIAN of UL, Mr. Brent Omerdahl – Commercial Counsellor of the U.S. embassy in Ha Noi. On the STAMEQ side, there are Dr. Ngo Quy Viet – Director General of QTAMEQ – and representative of some concerned units of STAMEQ.
Mr. J.C. Sekar, representative of UL, introduced briefly UL’s activities as well as their efforts to contribute to a safer world. In Dr. Ngo Quy Viet’s speech, he affirmed that Vietnamese society has been caring about safety, and functional organizations have implemented several activities to improve the safety in general society.
One of these important contents of the cooperation between STAMEQ and UL is technical and training supports from UL in building labs of safety in Vietnam (QUATEST 3 is appointed to combine with UL). Besides, both parties also discuss in detail recognition test results and certification service.
According to the plan, some cooperation activities, namely building labs of safety, training, safety certification for a number of products produced in Vietnam, will start in 2010.
