On 2nd February 2009, Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ) in collaboration with European Technical Assistance Programme for Vietnam held the closing ceremony of ETV2 "Standards and Quality Assurance" for summing up achievements after three-year implementation in Vietnam.

At the closing ceremony, Dr. Ngo Quy Viet - STAMEQ's Director General, Director of Component 6 ETV2 summarized and reported on main activities of the project as follows:

Establishment and alignment of legal frame work on Standards, Metrology and Quality: With the contribution of the EU experts, up to now the Law on Standards and Technical Regulations, Law on Products and Goods Quality and other subordinate legal documents were promulgated and took into force. The draft of Law on Metrology is in the final stage and expected to be adopted soon. The important Laws were developed on the basis of harmonization to the international and EU requirements, and will be the foundation for Metrology, Standards, Testing and Quality activities of Vietnam. The TBT database was developed to support the integration needs of Vietnamese enterprises.

Updating and enlarging knowledge on Quality management, Standardization, Metrology, Testing, Accreditation, Certification, Market surveillance and WTO/TBT database for the enterprises through conferences, seminar, workshop with the technical assistance of EU experts.

Improving technical capabilities of STAMEQ: new equipments have been purchased and installed to cover the most important priorities of Vietnam Metrology Institute, QUATEST 1, 2, 3 in Hanoi, Da Nang and HCMC with the total value of 544.000 Euro. Proficiency Testing program for QUATEST 1, 2, 3 to improve the knowledge and capabilities of STAMEQ's testing laboratories has been performed.

On behalf of Component 6, Dr. Ngo Quy Viet would like to express the sincere thanks to the support of European Commission Delegation to Vietnam, all key experts of Component 6, and all the staff in the Project Task Force 6.

In order to mark the achievements of the experts for the cause of Science and Technology, Minister of Science and Technology signed the Decisions on awarding Medals for 3 experts of this project.
